This week, La Mesa Vineyards of Amador County added several more awards to its lineup at the 2024 Foothill Wine Competition:
La Mesa Primitivo 2021 - Gold, 94 points
La Mesa Petite Sirah 2021 - Gold, 91 points
La Mesa Barbera 2021 - Gold, 90 points
La Mesa Tierra 2021 - Gold, 90 points
These latest vintages are scheduled to be released to La Mesa club members over the next few months.
The annual Foothill Wine Competition based in Folsom is among the most prominent competitions in California. Over 400 wines were blind tested by a panel of expert judges. Results in this competition are hard fought, with many of the regions' top winemakers submitting multiple entries.
Owner-winemaker Côme Laguë reflects on the achievement. "As a relatively new winery to Amador County, we're entering our wines in the big California competitions for the very first time. All the early work we have done to research clones, innovations in winemaking techniques using our Flextank technology are paying off. We've benefited from encouragement from our family and friends during years marked by drought, wildfires, frost events, lockdowns and generally tough business conditions. So it's gratifying to emerge from all that placing among the best by an expert panel of judges."
Congrats to our neighbouring Amador wineries, some of whom took awards at this competition. We are delighted to be in your company.
