2025 California State Fair Competition Results
Apr 19, 2025
We are thrilled to announce our results at the 2025 California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition, just released earlier today.
The State Fair is California's top statewide competition, dating back to 1854.
La Mesa Barbera 2021: Double Gold, 98 Points
Côme Laguë, owner and winemaker reflects on this achievement. "This latest award is a notch up for our Barbera, which took a Gold and 95 points in the same competition last year. I'm very proud to see us winning more acclaim for this varietal."
"Barbera was originally planted in California in the 1850s during the Gold Rush. Barbera is widely celebrated in Amador County, at events such as the annual Barbera Festival. There is a rich history found here."
"I personally planted our Barbera vines on the mid-block of our upper hillside vineyard, on trellis. They benefit from cool nights and warm days on this hillside. The soil here is comprised of mineral-rich, slightly acidic clay and decomposed granite soil with a reddish tint from its iron content. We make it into our red and Barbera Blanc, as well as our La Notte port and Primabera blend."
Watch for this vintage to be available over the next few weeks.

Congrats to our neighbouring Amador County wineries, some of whom took notable awards at this competition. We are proud to be in your company!
