2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Results

We are thrilled to share that La Mesa Vineyards brought home several major awards at the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, announced earlier today.

With some 950+ wineries in California and more than 5,500 wines entered nationally, the competition to be recognized as the best in the country is fierce.

Bob & Scott Fraser, directors at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition explain the importance of this competition. "Since 2000 the SFCWC has been a major barometer for American consumers of wines to peruse the evaluation results from our 60 plus outstanding professional judges representing wine educators, winemakers, trade, media, and wine related fields. "The SFCWC represents a 'Super Bowl' like opportunity for wine brands and winemakers, large and small, to present wines to a 'tasting palate' of judges that are the best in the nation."

Results:

Double Gold
La Mesa Syrah 2022

La Mesa Cabernet Franc Reserve 2023

La Mesa Sauvignon Blanc 2025
La Mesa Vermentino 2025

La Mesa Primitivo 2021
La Mesa Rosé 2025

Owner-winemaker Côme Laguë reflects on the recognition. "All these awards follow several years of hard work.  Our double gold-awarded Syrah 2022 is our highest decorated Syrah ever, in one of the most competitive categories.  We made it with our 100% estate fruit grown right here on the property, vines planted following a 3-year intensive clone research and grafting project.

I'm particularly pleased with our Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel results, both of which are highly competitive categories. Sauvignon Blanc was just our second year, and our Vermentino was our very first attempt, both using our low-sulfite Flextank technology. Of course it's a thrill to see our other wines placing among the best."

Some of these vintages are already available at our two tasting rooms, with others scheduled to be released over the next few weeks.

Congrats to our neighbouring Amador County wineries, some of whom also took notable awards at this competition. We are proud to be in your company!
