La Mesa Ties for Most Double Golds at 2025 Foothill Wine Competition

We are thrilled to announce our results at the prestigious 2025 Foothill Wine Competition, just released earlier today.

The 5th annual Foothill Wine Competition, based in Folsom is among the most prominent competitions in California. Nearly 500 wines were blind-tested by a panel of expert judges. Results in this competition are hard fought, with many of the regions' top winemakers submitting multiple entries.

La Mesa Vineyards of Amador County tied for the most Double Gold awards for any winery in the competition. 

Best of Region award: Malbec 2023 Reserve

Double Gold:

Aria 2024 Sparkling Wine - Double Gold

Barbera 2022 - Double Gold

Malbec 2023 Reserve - Double Gold

Mourvedre 2022 - Double Gold

Petite Verdot 2023 Reserve - Double Gold

Syrah 2023 "Le Mulet Rouge" - Double Gold 

All these wines are available or will be released over the next few months.

Owner-winemaker Côme Laguë reflects on the achievement. "We're thrilled that our latest wines are placing among the best by the expert panel of judges at Foothill.  As a relatively new winery to Amador County, we're entering our wines in regional competitions for the very first time in some cases. All the early work we have done to research clones, innovations in winemaking techniques using our Flextank technology and process are paying off."

Winning the Best of Region award on the Malbec was a particularly high honor for Côme. "The inspiration for this wine came as a challenge from my longtime Argentinian friend: Dare to make a Malbec as good or better than those I love from Mendoza. This one is made with local mountain fruit of course, but also our winemaking approach of enhanced aromatics, lighter tannins and low sulfites."

La Mesa tied nearby Plein Air Vineyards for the highest number of Double Gold awards at this competition.
