Muscat Canelli 2023

Awarded Double Gold, Best Muscat at the 2024 Peninsula Underground Under the Radar Competition. Our Muscat Canelli 2023 is dry fermented (not sweet), aromatic and perfumed, this lovely white wine brings out all the fragrant scents of summer. Made from grapes sourced from a neighboring higher elevation vineyard in El Dorado. We were unable to make this wine in 2022 due to bears breaking into the vineyard, but fortunately we beat the bears to the fruit this year! From white peach to apricot to orange blossoms, this wine is a botanical delight.  Easy to drink in the heat of summer and just as easy to enjoy in front of a roaring fire, paired with spicy food, nuts and cheese. 13.1% alcohol. Only 100 cases produced.

Winemaker Notes:

2023 was possibly one of the best growing seasons we have ever seen here in the Sierras. Working closely with the vineyard owner to pick at a perfect time to harvest, routinely tasting grapes for readiness. We harvested on September 14 at brix of 22 and a pH of 3.4. Whole-cluster pressed and cold-fermented over 21 days in special egg-shaped “Apollo” Flextanks which create a gas convection fermentation that constantly stirs the wine, extracting maximum flavors from suspended solids. To preserve the fresh, aromatic character of the fruit, the wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation, nor did it come in contact with oak.

Vineyard Notes:

Our Muscat Canelli grapes are sourced from neighboring Linebarier Vineyards in El Dorado County. Perched above a canyon facing west, this high elevation vineyard benefits from cool evening canyon breezes and ample daytime sunshine. The grapes are dry farmed on granitic and mineral soil, and mature to a well balanced sugar/acidity with exceptional flavor and aromas.
