Unlike other "sweet" Grenache Blancs found elsewhere, we make ours from the red Grenache grapes we cultivate here right on the estate, using our special technique to make it into a beautifully dry white wine. Full-bodied and textured like an oaked Chardonnay, you'll find fragrances of crisp white peach, Asian pear, and melon dance with honeysuckle and dried herbs, finishing with a whisper of lime zest. This wine is right at home with grilled fish, pasta, or BBQ. 14.4% alcohol. 119 cases produced.

Winemaker Notes:

Making this Grenache Blanc from our red grapes involves harvesting far earlier in the season than for its red Grenache Noir counterpart. Fruit is quickly whole-cluster pressed in a rapid juice extraction cycle. Cold-fermented over the next 3 weeks in egg-shaped “Apollo” Flextanks. Apollos have the advantage of creating a vortex of gas that constantly stirs the juice and lees solids that normally would sit at the bottom, promoting maximum flavor extraction while keeping the juice cool. No oak added and no secondary ML fermentation for a crisp fruit-forward style.

Vineyard Notes:

Our Estate Grenache grows on a steep hillside at 2,000-foot altitude in the granitic and volcanic soil of our vineyard estate in the Shenandoah Valley of the Sierra Foothills. It is grafted on special drought-tolerant rootstock which allows it to dig deep in this soil for water and we dry farm it. It thrives in the warm daytime breezes from the Central Valley and cool Sierra evenings, a 30 degree swing in temperature. We grow the "Alban" clone, brought to California by "Rhône Ranger" John Alban who worked as a winemaker at the Château Rayas in Châteauneuf du Pape. This special clone is a rare find in the Sierras.
