Vermentino 2025

Gold, 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. A taste of Tuscany grown right here in Amador County!  Grapes for our first-ever Vermentino were sourced from an old vine block in a nearby vineyard, fermented in our “Apollo” egg-shaped Flextanks known for creating a vortex that constantly stirs lees solids and cools the wine down, extracting maximum flavors. This white wine instantly hits you with aromas of pear, grapefruit zest and white peach. Flavors of bright citrus, green apple, pear and almond.  Dry style with crisp acidity and a light to medium body. Pairs perfectly with salads, chicken, fish and light pastas. 12.7% alcohol. 95 cases produced.

Winemaker Notes:

We had the opportunity to make Vermentino for the first time last fall, always an exciting challenge. Grapes secured from a neighboring vineyard, intensive sampling visited 10 times over 6 weeks, mid Aug to the end of Sept to check ripeness, balance, flavor. Patience required as profile kept improving with hang time in cool Sept weather. Picked September 29. Last white wine we made this season. Selected a unique yeast to ferment it in our special “Apollo” Flextanks over the next 3 weeks. Cold stabilized outdoors during winter and bottled up fresh in April 2026.

Vineyard Notes:

We sourced the grapes for our Vermentino from a neighboring vineyard in Amador. The 40+ year old vines grow in a cooler valley and are renown for producing intense flavored highly aromatic wines. Typically, all grapes are allocated to longtime buyers making it very difficult to secure, but we agreed to make wine for the owner in exchange for an allocation. He believed that we could make an exceptional wine. We waited patiently for a perfect balance between acidity and flavors.
