"Double Gold" Winner at 2024 SF Chronicle Competition
Jan 20, 2024
We are thrilled to share that La Mesa Vineyards was decorated with several awards at the 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, just announced this week.
With some 600 wineries in California and more than 5,000 nationally, the competition to be recognized as the best in the country is fierce. Bob & Scott Fraser, directors at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition explain the importance of this competition. "Since 2000 the SFCWC has been a major barometer for American consumers of wines to peruse the evaluation results from our 60 plus outstanding professional judges representing wine educators, winemakers, trade, media, and wine related fields.
"The SFCWC represents a 'Super Bowl' like opportunity for wine brands and winemakers, large and small, to present wines to a 'tasting palate' of judges that are the best in the nation."
Every single one of La Mesa's wines submitted was awarded at this competition:
La Mesa Tierra 2020 - Double Gold
La Mesa Primitivo 2020 - Gold
La Mesa Syrah 2021 - Gold
La Mesa Mourvedre 2021 - Gold
La Mesa Barbera 2020 - Silver
La Mesa Seta Special Edition 2020 - Silver
Owner-winemaker Côme Laguë reflects on the recognition. "All these awards follow several years of hard work. I'm particulary pleased with our Syrah and Mourvedre Gold medal awards. These two are the very first releases of our 100% estate fruit grown right here on the property, the first wines made after a 3-year intensive clone research and grafting project. Of course it's also a thrill to see our other wines placing among the best."
Full results are published on the SF Chronicle website: https://winejudging.com.
Congrats to our neighbouring Amador County wineries, some of whom also took notable awards at this competition. We are delighted to be in your company!
